In Yahoo Pipes, the Yahoo! Local module allows you to find local businesses and services and get reviews on them. You could search for Ticketmaster retail outlets in Vancouver, or concert venues in Anaheim. To use it, first enter one or more keywords of what you’re looking for, and a location proximity.
For example, we can search for “disneyland” within 20 miles of zip code 92802.
Now if we drill down the first result: “Disneyland Resort Anaheim California”:

We also get see some detailed geographic information that can help us plot this location on a map. Drill down the y:location and you’ll see the:
- City
- Street
- State
- Latitude
- Longitude
- Quality
The quality score is something that Yahoo Pipes assigns to your location. Depending on how much information you can provide about your location, Pipes will assign a quality score between 1-100 for the accuracy of the latitude and longitude. In this case our quality score is a perfect 100, so we know the geographic data provided is extremely accurate.
As you can see, there’s lots of data we can take from these results and mashup.
Yahoo Pipes automatically takes this data and plots it on an interactive map for us.
