Flickr Module

Flickr is a site for users to upload their pictures. The Flickr module in Yahoo Pipes allows you to search for pictures by keywords and target them by geographic locations.

To use the module, first enter how many pictures you want the search to return. Then enter one or more keywords, like “Madonna” or “The Wiltern”. You can also specify the geographic location a photo was taken in, like “New York” or Vancouver”.

If location data is available for the photo, geo-location data (y:location) will show up in the debugger. If this information is available, you’ll have the option to plot your pictures on a map with Yahoo Pipes.

For this module we don’t need to enter a URL, just our search query, how many results we want, and an optional location. In this example, we want to see: 20 images of “general motors place” near “Vancouver”.

When we drill down the results, we get a lot of detailed data including the:

  • Flickr link
  • Direct image link
  • Image id
  • Publish date/time
  • Image type
  • Thumbnail link
  • Thumbnail html code
  • Latitude and longitude of where the picture was taken (if a location was inputted in the Flickr module)
  • Quality (accuracy) of the image location
  • Image tags
  • Image title
