Canvas – Yahoo Pipes Editor

The canvas is the main area of the Yahoo Pipes editor where you will create your Pipe. You can drag and drop different modules and arrange them however you want. If you want to auto-arrange everything, just hit the “Layout” button at the top of the editor to sort everything out.

To collapse a module, just double click the title bar; to restore it, double click it again. This can be useful if you’re working on a complicated Pipe and need more room.

To make your Yahoo Pipe work, you need to wire the modules together. To do this, click on the output terminal of a module…

…then click on an input terminal of another module you want to connect to.

After clicking on the output terminal of a module, every compatible terminal that you can connect to will light up orange.

Tip! When you are ready to run and output your Pipe, you MUST connect the last module to the “Pipe Output”, otherwise it won’t run!

To cut a connection between modules, just click on either end of the terminals and a scissor icon will appear. Click the scissors to cut the connection.

A lot of modules can be configured by entering data directly in them, or wiring data in from other modules. You can use the User Input modules to let users enter their own information, like search queries for example.

A subPipe is a Yahoo Pipe that you’ve already saved and want to use as a building block in a new Pipe. A subPipe is just like a regular module with the addition of an “open” link. When you click on the link, the subPipe is opened in a new tab of the editor. Click on the tabs to switch between them.
